Exploring HVERI: The Impact of 'Puna Strong' on Our Journey, a Video From The Kīlauea Recovery Team

In 2018, Hawaii Tracker provided accurate and timely information to those most impacted in the Lower East Rift Zone of Kīlauea. Since then, our commitment has only grown. We established the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Hawaiian Volcano Education and Resilience Institute (HVERI, pronounced "H—very"), dedicated to improving disaster preparedness, response, and recovery through volcano education and resilience network building.

This short video was created on behalf of Puna Strong, a fund managed by the Hawaii Community Foundation for the County of Hawaii. Puna Strong supported HVERI before it was even formally established as a nonprofit. The video showcases our organization's progress, especially in our Volcano Education and Digital Resilience programs, which have advanced and formalized significantly over the six years since the 2018 Kīlauea eruption. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Puna Strong and the Kīlauea Recovery Team for their belief in our efforts early in our development. Their continued support has proven vital in our efforts to enhance the resilience of Hawaii Island against volcanic hazards and other natural disasters.
